Hey, remember that time I used to update my livejournal?

I'm taking advantage of the current Nor'Easter storm to update this thing for the first time in over a year. Rain, rain, go away. I want to go outside, but I just don't want to put on pants. Things that have happened in the past year and a few weeks:

-I still live in Boston, and will be here for the forseeable future. Actually, I just realized looking back that I never really said i'd moved. So, yeah...I live here now...sup

-I've got a job at a golf shop downtown. I'm teaching beginner lessons, and have been promoted to director of retail. Still waiting for my pay raise though...But it's a great job, and i'm finally doing something that I can see myself doing for a long time. Even if my boss is a tremendous douche. Plus, I get crazy good hookups on golf clubs. It's a sickness.

-I've seen lots of awesome bands. Decemberists (several times), Explosions in the Sky, Weakerthans, The Elected, Alkaline Trio, Piebald, Anathallo, Bloc Party, Rx Bandits, etc etc etc etc...it still hasn't gotten old being in a place where you can walk to shows.

-Traci and I are currently looking for an apartment for August/September. Just looking to get out of the student ghetto. So...yeah :)

-I saw a hooker giving a guy in a wheelchair a handjob in the alley next to work. Sweet.

-I went to a bunch of Red Sox games, including the 3 game series against my White Sox. So much fun, I love living near a ballpark as well.

-Took a few really fun mini vacations. Portland Maine, Washington DC, NYC, and NYC again next week. Woo.

And a bunch of other stuff that i'm totally blanking on. It doesn't matter really, i'm really happy where I am and thats all that matters.

Though, I must say it's really scary reading my profile that says i'm 20...i'm turning 25 this week...GUHHHHHHH

-So on a whim last night, I went to see The Decemberists at Metro, all by my lonesome...I saw them last week in Boston and they were all kinds of amazing, so I thought, what the hell...I bought the ticket online before I left to assure myself a spot, a 17 dollar ticket which isn't too ridiculous...I bought it without paying attention, and the grand fucking total came to 29 dollars and some change

what

the

fuck

That was almost enough to ruin my time, but not really...They were great as always, playing a slightly different set, and even a cover of Mr. Blue Sky...So all was well...The crowd kind of blew though, it was a +18 show, so it was hipster central...everybody was too busy holding their girlfriend's hand to have fun and sing along...whatever

But yeah, they were great...and here's the pictures from last week, for those who did not see them :)

off to work, and then to see THRICE

I can't wait to leave this place, it's not that I hate it so much, I just need a change of scenery for awhile...I can't wait, I want to go now :)

-The only drawback to moving is the fact that i'll be living in an apartment with 4 other people, none of which I know...but for the price of the rent, i'd live with rats if I had to...

ok not literally

but yeah...that's my exciting news for the year/my life :)

-as of now, i'm working 7 days a week between two jobs, sometimes both jobs on the given day, but when I get more time, i'll update this thing alot more than I have been lately...promise

The City on Film/Thunderbirds are Now!/These Arms are Snakes/Minus the Bear @ The Bottom Lounge

:):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)

So I haven't had this much fun at a show in a really really long time...The City on Film opened, full band style...Bob's backing band last night were actually my friends in The Felix Culpa, it was a little bizarre seeing people I actually know personally up there playing with Bob, but he sounded really great...It stuck mostly to the rockin stuff, like For Holly and the like...such a great set

Thunderbirds are Now! were next...Despite hearing some negative stuff about them, I found them to be fun...Seemed like nice guys too, I don't know

These Arms are Snakes were next, they tore the fucking roof off the place...the kids that were there for them weren't big in numbers, but they went apeshit when they hit the stage...due to the movement, I mostly left the camera in the bag

And finally, Minus The Bear...I'd seen them once in the past opening up for the Braid tour last year, and was seroiusly underwhelmed with their show...Not alot of stage presence, and they didn't really sound that outstanding, but last night was a complete 180...I don't know if it was due to the packed room (the place was sold out) and the intimacy of it or what, but they were fucking awesome...playing everything I wanted to hear...Fine Plus 2 pts, Absinthe Party, Dog Park, Hooray!, Memphis and 53rd, Spritz!!! Spritz!!!, etc etc etc...

so yeah, a great night indeed...i got a few pictures, and if anybody wants, I can upload my videos of For Holly and Absinthe Party at the Fly Honey Warehouse :)

By the way, most of these pictures are similar because 1. I had a big ogar next to me, and I could hardly shoot anything left of the main mic, and 2. I couldn't move an inch in any direction...oh well

should be up on my site soon though :)

    <lj:music>Tilly and the Wall</lj:music>

-What a grand week for new music...picked up the new Minus the Bear, and the new ETID in the last couple days. It's funny how much better albums sound when you get the actual cd in your player...maybe it's mental, I don't know, but Gutter Phenomenon sounds huuuuuuuuuuuuge, I love it...and Menos El Oso, at this point, is heads and shoulders above all for album of the year...Except maybe for The City on Film...hmm...choices choices

-I went to The House on Thursday night and saw Bang! Bang!/The Sleeping/Hanalei...It was a good time, it's really nice having a venue that has cheap shows so close, even if the lighting isn't too hot for pictures...but oh well

yay for subpar grainy photos!

Bang! Bang!
These guys were fun...I know it's going to come as a shock when you look at the pictures, but BB plays upbeat dance rock...equally as shocking, i have two legs

The Sleeping
um...these dudes were from long island...they had fog machines and lasers...because of the lasers and smoke, hardly any pictures were ken...they're friends with taking back sunday...thats about it

Hanalei
Now in full band form! They were great...although everybody was sitting down at tables, it was still nice...sounded good, played good songs...good good good

-And on that note, my website is coming along nicely, my friend Wes is working on it whenever he can, and we came up with a kind of neat layout...update coming soon :)

also coming soon...better pictures than these, hopefully
